Batala has been a wedding town for nearly five and a half centuries. Raja Ram Deo founded it in 1465 inside a twelve-gated fort, and only twenty-two years later, on 22 August 1487, the Baraat of Guru Nanak Dev Ji arrived from Sultanpur Lodhi for His wedding to Mata Sulakkhani. The marriage party rested at what is now Gurdwara Sri Kandh Sahib, where Guru Sahib blessed an old crooked mud wall to stand as witness for centuries — and it has. A short walk away, Gurdwara Sri Dera Sahib marks the house of Mool Chand Chauna, where Guru Nanak took four rounds around the sacred fire and refused the Brahminical rituals of the time. And 8 kilometres south, Gurdwara Sri Achal Sahib still keeps the memory of His dialogue with the Yogis. Order before 8 PM for same-day delivery, or any time up to 12:00 AM midnight for a next-day slot — both options are standard. Even a long shift at the foundry softens when something blooms on the dining table.
